What is Griha Pravesh Pooja?
Griha Pravesh Pooja is the traditional Hindu housewarming ceremony performed before a family enters a newly constructed, newly purchased, renovated, or long-unoccupied property. Through Vedic mantras, Havan, and rituals addressed to Lord Ganesha, Goddess Lakshmi, Vastu Purusha, and the Navagrahas, the ceremony purifies the space, resolves Vastu imbalances, and establishes a spiritually harmonious environment for the family to thrive in.
Without this pooja, the property remains ritually unprepared — a shell, however beautiful. Griha Pravesh transforms it into a home.

Types of Griha Pravesh Ceremony
- Apoorva Griha Pravesh: For families entering a newly constructed property for the first time. The most common and auspicious type.
- Sapoorva Griha Pravesh: Performed when re-entering a home after extended absence, relocation, or major renovation.
- Dwandwah Griha Pravesh: Performed after reconstruction following damage from a natural calamity, structural failure, or significant repair work.
Not sure which type applies to you? Our team will guide you based on your situation.
Complete Griha Pravesh Pooja Procedure
Our Pandits follow the complete traditional Vidhi. Here is what the ceremony includes:
1. Sankalp: The ceremony opens with a formal declaration of intent — the family's names, the property details, and a prayer for well-being and prosperity.
2. Ganesh Pujan: Lord Ganesha is invoked first to remove obstacles and ensure an auspicious beginning to life in the new home.
3. Kalash Sthapana: The sacred Kalash is established as a symbol of divine presence, abundance, and the energy of all tirthas.
4. Vastu Pujan: Prayers are offered to Vastu Purusha and the Ashta Dikpals — the guardians of the eight directions — to align the home's energy with cosmic order.
5. Navagraha Shanti: The nine planetary deities are worshipped to neutralise any malefic planetary influences and ensure harmony within the household.
6. Havan: Ahuti is offered into the sacred fire while Vedic mantras are chanted — purifying the home's atmosphere at both physical and spiritual levels.
7. Milk Boiling Ceremony: A deeply auspicious tradition. The milk boiling over symbolises abundance flowing into your new home and an overflowing of good fortune for your family.
8. Blessings and Prasad Distribution: The ceremony closes with prayers for health, happiness, success, and long-term peace. Prasad is distributed among all family members present.
What Are the Benefits of Griha Pravesh Pooja?
Removes Negative Energies: The Havan and Vedic mantras purify the premises — clearing any residual negative energies left by previous occupants or the construction process itself.
Balances Vastu Energies: The Vastu Pujan addresses directional imbalances and strengthens the flow of positive energy through the home's architecture.
Invites Lakshmi into the Home: The rituals seek blessings of Goddess Lakshmi for financial stability, sustained abundance, and career growth for the family.
Promotes Family Harmony: The ceremony creates a spiritually aligned environment that supports peace, positive relationships, and emotional well-being for all members.
Divine Protection: The mantras establish a spiritual shield around the home and its occupants, invoking protection from unseen negative forces.
Supports Health and Well-Being: A spiritually purified home contributes to the physical and mental well-being of its residents — reducing stress and inviting calm.
Griha Pravesh Muhurat 2026 – Best Dates for Housewarming
The ideal Muhurat for Griha Pravesh depends on several Vedic factors:
- Nakshatra (lunar mansion) on the chosen date
- Tithi (lunar day)
- Current planetary positions and transit
- The horoscope of the head of the family
- Local Panchang calculations
Certain tithis such as Chaturthi, Ashtami, Navami, Chaturdashi, Amavasya, and Purnima are generally avoided. Nakshatras like Rohini, Mrigashira, Uttara Phalguni, Hasta, Chitra, Swati, Anuradha, Uttarashada, and Uttara Bhadrapada are considered favourable.
Our team will identify a suitable Griha Pravesh Muhurat for 2026 specific to your city, your family's horoscope details, and your preferred calendar window. Share your details while booking.
