Mahalakshmi Pooja is a Hindu ritual dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi, who is the deity of wealth, prosperity, and abundance. The pooja is typically performed on Fridays, especially during the auspicious months of Ashwin (September-October) and Chaitra (March-April), or during the festival of Diwali, which is closely associated with Lakshmi.
Key Features
Preparation:- Clean the pooja area and set up an altar or pooja space.
Place an image or idol of Goddess Lakshmi on the altar.
Gather pooja items such as flowers, diya (oil lamp), incense sticks, fruits, sweets, and other offerings.
Setting Up the Altar:- Decorate the area with flowers and rangoli (colorful patterns on the floor).
Light the diya and incense sticks.
Pooja Ritual:- Start by performing a Ganesh pooja to seek the removal of obstacles., Offer water and a bath (abhishekam) to the deity if using an idol., Apply turmeric, sandalwood paste, and vermilion to the idol or image, Offer flowers, fruits, and sweets to Goddess Lakshmi.
Aarti:- (waving of lighted lamp) and chant mantras dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi. Common mantras include “Om Shreem Mahalakshmiyei Namah” and “Om Lakshmi Venkateshaya Namah.”
Lakshmi Ashtakshara Mantra:- “Om Shreem Maha Lakshmyei Namah.”
Conclusion:- Conclude the pooja by distributing prasad (offered food) to family members and devotees.
