Solah (16) Somvar Vrat Udyapan

The Solah Somvar Vrat is a Hindu fasting ritual observed on sixteen consecutive Mondays to seek blessings for marital happiness, harmony, and prosperity. The word "udyapan" means the conclusion or finalization of the vrat (fast). This phase is significant as it marks the completion of the fasting period and involves special ceremonies to offer thanks and seek continued blessings.

Preparation

Cleanliness and Sanctity:- Ensure the pooja area is clean and well-decorated, Bathe and wear clean clothes.

Gather Pooja Items:- Flowers, Diya (oil lamp), Incense sticks, Fruits and sweets, A new cloth or a fresh saree for the deity, Offerings for the deity (like milk, honey, and sugar).

Pooja Procedure

Setup:- Place an image or idol of Lord Shiva (or Lord Shiva and Parvati) on the altar, Decorate the altar with flowers and rangoli.

Start with Ganesh Pooja:- Offer prayers to Lord Ganesha to remove obstacles.

Perform the Main Pooja:- Light the diya and incense sticks, Offer water, milk, honey, and sugar to the deity, Apply sandalwood paste and vermilion to the idol or image of Lord Shiva, Offer flowers and fruits.

Recite Shiva Vandana:- (prayers to Lord Shiva), such as "Om Namah Shivaya" or other Shiva stotras.

Recite the Vrat Katha:- The vrat katha (story) associated with Solah Somvar Vrat should be recited. This story narrates the significance of the fast and the blessings it brings.

Aarti and Prayers:- Perform aarti (waving of the lighted lamp) and sing devotional songs, Offer thanks to Lord Shiva for the completion of the vrat and seek his blessings for happiness, health, and prosperity.

Distribution of Prasad:- Distribute the prasad (offered food) to family members and guests.

Feast:- A special meal is prepared to celebrate the end of the vrat. This is typically a festive meal shared with family and friends.

Charity and Gratitude:- It is customary to give charity or donate to the needy as part of the udyapan, as a gesture of gratitude for the blessings received.
